After Death You Will Be Very Busy
After a Sat Yoga community film screening of The Tibetan Book of the Dead (narrated by Leonard Cohen), Shunyamurti answers questions about choice and free will in the bardo, the in between state after the death of the body: is it the ego or the soul that chooses its post-mortem fate, and how can one navigate the way to the ultimate state in the afterlife?

Our Fear of Death Is Also Our Fear of Life
The subject of this satsang is death, a fear of which is endemic to every ego. We fear our own death and feel sorrow at the death of the other, because our consciousness has identified with a mortal body and its thoughts. Fear of death also amounts to fear of life—fear of taking risks, individuating, and entering the unknown Self. Only when we live in this state, recognizing and deciding that our highest Self is most valuable and Real, will the power of Self-actualization and a life free of Self-betrayal be possible.
Prepare for Death
What is the destination of consciousness beyond the death of the body and beyond the death of the ego? Through a series of profound self-inquiries, you are invited to examine what still binds you to maya, what you value above realization of God, and whether you can remain awake at the center of consciousness regardless of the body's condition.
The Ego Lacks Free Will!
In this Q&A, Shunyamurti explores the nature of free will, the illusion of the ego, and the path to realizing the true Self. If the ego has no real agency, what does responsibility mean on the spiritual path? Through dialogue with students, Shunyamurti explains that the ego is a conditioned program; and true freedom arises only when its illusions are dissolved through surrender, meditation, and the silence of the mind. This conversation also touches on a profound paradox: how the unreal world itself becomes the means through which consciousness awakens to the Real. The path of awakening requires the courage to face the death of the ego and to rediscover our birthright as beings of Divine Consciousness.
The Soul’s Surrender Wins the War Against the Ego
The ego’s fantasy is believing it is an entity separate from God; it has no free will, and it cripples the soul’s ability to fully blossom as a divine being and fulfill its potential. But the soul is already free, and the only war and enemy to be fought is with one’s own ego. This is accomplished by letting go of who we think we are and allowing the soul to surrender to the grace of God in divine love. Once this is done, all fear and worldly desire will be eliminated. Why wait to remember the gift of the realization of the Presence of God in your heart, soul, and body?
Enjoy a 3-Course Meal of Consciousness!
The maitre d’ suggests you start with the Dionysian appetizer. But, if the hot peppers go to your head, we can offer a quick decapitation and then a full recap with higher consciousness and a sweet Apollonian dessert. However, these days most customers prefer to end their beggars’ banquet with our devilish hot sauce. What kind of spirits would you like?
