We Are Created by God to Realize God

In this opening teaching from our annual Rainy Season Retreat, Shunyamurti presents the radical path to liberation described by Ramana Maharshi, Huang Po, and other great sages across spiritual traditions: the dissolution of the ego and the transcendence of thought itself. The separate self is a structure of concepts, beliefs, desires, and fears that obscures the infinite consciousness already present. Through love of God, surrender, and profound inner stillness, the mind becomes empty of its habitual chatter, and the heart opens to the fullness of divine bliss. The goal is not to accumulate more spiritual knowledge or become enlightened but to let go of the one who seeks awakening. What remains is pure presence, Sat Chit Ananda, and the spontaneous expression of divine beauty and truth in every aspect of life.

Drawing on the mystical vision of the Sufi sage Suhrawardi, Shunyamurti explores a progression from the City of Darkness and degraded egoic desire, through self-reproach, divine love, spiritual discipline, prayer and samadhi, and finally to fanā: the annihilation of the ego and the complete dissolution of separation from God.

Why are we afraid of others? Why do we resist opening the heart, even when we long for love and freedom? Shunyamurti explains that beneath these patterns lies an inner dyad: a frightened child and an internalized superego that continues to generate anxiety long after the original circumstances have disappeared. Liberation comes not through fighting these patterns but through witnessing them, surrendering them to God, and bringing love to the parts of ourselves that never felt fully loved.

In this satsang, Shunyamurti explores the highest teaching of Advaita Vedanta: love is not a feeling—it is what we are. Drawing from the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi and Adi Shankaracharya, he reveals that the ego mistakes desire, attachment, and possession for love, while true love is the very nature of the Self. As the world enters its final phase of Kali Yuga, Shunyamurti explains that the collapse unfolding around us is ultimately the consequence of a civilization that has forgotten the taste of divine love. Through purification, ego death, and recognizing that Brahman alone is Real, consciousness is freed from its false narratives and restored to its natural state of bliss, wisdom, and unity.
