Halloween: Spiritual Origin and Significance

Halloween: Spiritual Origin and Significance

What is the true spiritual meaning of Halloween? In this classic teaching recorded in 2018, Shunyamurti explores the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain as a symbolic passage through darkness and death into divine rebirth. Drawing on the Tree of Life, heroic myths, and the spiritual significance of sacrifice, he explains why the ego is the ultimate obstacle to humanity's return to divine consciousness, and why every new Golden Age must begin with the death of the old.

Note: Shunyamurti did not complete his explanation of why the Gaelic holiday pronounced Sahwen is spelled Samhain. The original settlers were Aryan speakers of early Sanskrit, and the holy day was a coming together of the living and the spirits of their dead ancestors, who were the gods of earlier yugas. The idea of coming together was expressed as a sangham, which could also be written as samhan. Thus, the Sanskrit root was preserved, though the spoken language evolved.

The Martial Art of Throwing Off Your Ego

The Martial Art of Throwing Off Your Ego

In this satsang, Shunyamurti exposes atheism not merely as disbelief in God but as disbelief in one’s own true Self. The soul’s suffering begins when consciousness becomes trapped in the ego’s narratives of lack, fear, abandonment, and separation. Cut off from divine love, the heart closes, the mind becomes restless, and life turns into an endless search for fulfillment in things that can never satisfy. Drawing on the symbolism of the sacred cow, the power of Shakti, and the highest teachings of nonduality, Shunyamurti explains how grace gradually dissolves the false self and restores the soul to its natural state of peace and wholeness. Through three approaches—the Hard Style of willpower, the Soft Style of surrender, and the Supreme Style of recognizing that all is God—he shows that liberation comes not from improving the ego but from awakening to the changeless presence of the Self.

Don’t Go Through the Wrong Doors:
or, How the Daimon Becomes a Demon:
A Study of Psychotic Brilliance

Oliver Stone has made a highly impactful, provocative, and disturbing film about the life and demise of Jim Morrison and his infamous band The Doors. While screening the film, it became clear that the cinematic sinfulness of the presentation itself is a monstrously perverse enactment, putting Stone as auteur into the place of the Lacanian object cause of the desire of the Other—in this case of whoever is lured into watching the film and consuming its images.

Because of its perverse intentionality, I would be an accomplice to the flagrant immorality and envy of the perverse and psychotic jouissance depicted so graphically as well as subliminally and with plausible deniability by the film, covering its hook with the justifiable bait of perusing an approved cultural artifact, offered as protected expression under the aegis of being a work of art...

Midnight in Paris

Midnight in Paris

Intro to Midnight in Paris:
An Anti-Hero’s Journey Through Delusion

Tonight, we will continue our spiritual exploration of the fate of comedy in these final days. This film, however, I would categorize rather as a post-romantic traumedy. It is a series of semi-benign violations, valorized as fantasies of freedom. Given its fashionable Parisian milieu, and its flamboyant flavor, I would give it a grandiose Joycean title (since Joyce lived in Paris at the time in which the movie is intermittently set, though he was left out of the cast) like: Portrait of the Ego as a Failed Artist Over-Compensating for His Lack of Creativity Through a Delusional Act of Time Travel at the Midnight of History.

Jesus Was a Holy Hologram — A Theory of Early Christians

Jesus Was a Holy Hologram — A Theory of Early Christians

We celebrate Easter from the perspective of the sages of the docetic version of Christianity. This leads to the recognition that the whole world is a holographic projection—none of us is really here. The Self transmits the holographic image of a body; and consciousness mistakenly identifies with that form, rather than with the Light and Intelligence projecting all forms in a motion picture epic of Divine Authorship. That epic is rendered into animation by the Goddess and destined to reach its climax with Revelation, Rapture, and Redemption.

Money, Meaning, or Liberation?

Money, Meaning, or Liberation?

In this Q&A, Shunyamurti responds to questions on money, career dissatisfaction, split loyalties, faith, service, and the inner struggle for liberation. He points beyond ego narratives toward a shift in consciousness where surrender replaces effort, freedom replaces fear, and the Self is recognized beyond thought, identity, and personal story.
